The Exemplary 2024
Honorable Mention, Professional Non-Original with Instruction
Serafina’s canvas was displayed high on a wall, and she stood out from most other canvases – elegance and presence! It came with a stitch guide, which I used in a few areas but found many of the stitches not what I wanted my elegant witch to convey.
I loved using the open bargello pattern for her skirt and found the threads for the hat to be appropriate, but that’s about where the stitch guide ended.
Burmilana was used for the owl, and I worked layer upon layer to get the eyes right.
For her skirt peplum, I chose to create a stitch that flowed out, rather than Ohio Stars randomly added. The fringe technique was one I chose – ruched Kreinik #4 braid instead of strung beads. She also needed more beads and gems than specified for the bodice of her jacket. Changing to a black edged orange silk ribbon was perfect for the cummerbund. Wonder Ribbon worked for the billowy veil.
