“The Stitching Party” is inspired by Judy Chicago’s 1970s ceremonial banquet, arranged on a triangular table, commemorating important women in history. This Mobius band, also triangular, honors 24 admired women needlearts teachers who have imparted their wisdom and their talent to me along my stitching journey. Each stitched motif represents a skill or a concept that one of my teachers has shared with me. These motifs pay tribute to my earliest teacher, my mother who taught me to stitch, as well as some of my most recent companions who have stretched me to learn new and challenging concepts and techniques. I can envision all of them stitching together around a table and sharing their love of stitching and teaching, all the while learning from each other. Wouldn’t you love to be a part of such a stitching party?
