This piece began as experimental embroidery on the pant leg of my son’s outgrown blue jeans. From my sizeable stash I selected various colorful threads and beads that played well together. I was especially careful to include many purples, Tim’s favorite color. After starting with purples, I thought I might try working with complementary colors, so I used yellows. Then I kept stitching, adding more threads, more beads, more color. With time the piece took on a life of its own. What started as a materials-focused exercise became so much more.
