The Exemplary 2023:
Dolores Andrew Award
1st Place, Professional Original
For all the years that I rode my bike to class at the Rehoboth Art League, my route often took me past one of the small lakes there. Projecting into the lake was a picturesque gazebo. Finally, one day I took the time to stop and take some photos of the scene, which later became part of my Covid/quarantine series. (One subject expressed in several different media).
The photos and small paintings have offered me some further inspiration with my current circle design in collage/Mixed Media. The background is watercolored for the sky, distant foliage, and pond. The gazebo roof is hand-made paper. Many strands of white DMC create the columns and railings of the building. The surrounding foliage is a combination of travel catalog pages, some yarns, and more watercolor.
Now that I‘m no longer able to bike to class, I still pass the little lake. It, too, has changed. Many more similar little gazebos dot the water’s surface, offering a cool spot to catch a breeze in the serenity of an evening.
